This is Works in Progress

Works in Progress is a new online magazine dedicated to sharing novel ideas and stories of progress, and features original writing from some of the most interesting thinkers in the world.

This project is funded by a grant from Emergent Ventures.

  • Sam Bowman

    Sam Bowman is Director of Competition Policy at the International Center for Law and Economics. He is also the former director of the Adam Smith Institute where he remains a Senior Fellow.

    He lives in London.

  • Saloni Dattani

    Saloni Dattani is a PhD student in psychiatric genetics at King’s College London and The University of Hong Kong. She’s interested in how science is communicated to the public and used in public policy. Her science writing has been featured in Quillette and UnHerd.

    She lives in Hong Kong.

  • Ben Southwood

    Ben Southwood is Head of Housing, Transport, and Urban Space at Policy Exchange. In 2019, he was awarded an Emergent Ventures grant for his paper on the speed of scientific progress; he was awarded a second EV grant in 2020 for his forthcoming paper on rebooting progress in pharmaceuticals.

    He lives in London.

  • Nick Whitaker

    Nick Whitaker is the managing editor of Works in Progress. He also does interviews for the magazine. Currently, he teaches Progress Studies for Young Scholars and works in venture capital.

    He lives in San Francisco.
